My favorite serial killer
Dexter season 3 has come to an end and as usual it leaves us craving more than the short 12 episodes seasons we are given. Now at first when I started watching Dexter I was a bit skeptical, thinking there has to be something else to it because how do they expect us to follow a show which main character is a serial killer? It is quite obvious that for a tv show to work you have to build some kind of connection between the characters and the audience, our simple minds have to rely to them, recognize ourselves in them so that we are left wanting some more every week...now how do you do that with a serial killer character?
That's the genius of these books written by Jeff Lindsay and put to the screen life by Michael Cuesta and James Manos Jr. Dexter Morgan is not just some serial killer, his victims are always killers themselves...so you think he is some kind of hero actually ain't he? It is this psychological duality that makes this show interesting. Dexter is a serial killer, he doesn't have any feelings (or so he claims, I actually think he has them buried after the murder of his biological mother and he becomes aware of them in this last season, especially in the last episode), enjoys killing and yet he also is a forensic for the Miami police,is willing to protect and help his step-sister and is engaged in a serious relationship to Rita whom kids he cares for.
So for all this your affection for the character grows and he is also demonstrating the part of darkness we all have in us.
Dexter and Rita finally tied the knot in this season finale and Dexter is about to become a father...this is some major change that is gonna be interesting to watch.
ps: Here is our lovely Julie Benz (aka Rita in Dexter and Darla in Buffy the Vampire Slayer for those of you who were a fanatic like me!) as a brunette...what do you think?
I love the angelic Rita but I also love the sexy Julie!!
